It might be tempting providence but over the years the day selected
for the annual Summer Fete has always been dry, even if the weather up
to the event has been atrocious. This year was no exception and until
the Thursday beforehand contingency plans were in place for alternative
parking arrangements away from the river; but none of this was necessary.
In the end it was a splendid occasion being warm, dry and not too hot.
The staff at PEDOKC had worked tirelessly to make sure the grounds
and gardens were looking at their best. Faithful helpers from the
south of the County once again performed wonders to provide electricity
and water to the tents and collect and set up the PA. Generous donors
loaned items such as the Mobile Thrones and the skip for rubbish removal
and so many people gave their time including:
Malcolm Taylor and his team with the Cream Teas, Graham Cannon responsible
for Bar staffing and Andrew Cuthbertson bringing in supplies, Chas Barrand
looking after the stallholders, John Tritton for Health & Safety, Nigel
Oldacre as MC (and so many other roles), Adrian Saggers and his team dealing
with parking and George Gilliband for driving the "Friends" minibus throughout
the day. Area Representatives, their wives, the stallholders, Lodges
throughout the Province and members of the Combined Stewards Lodge - Thank
you and Well Done!
